Reward Deficiency Syndrome Solution Focused Brief Therapy (RDS-SFBT) is psychoeducation for therapists, counselors and patient/family members to introduce the new Reward Deficiency Syndrome paradigm. RDS is the true phenotype, with addictions, and other mental health disorders being endotypes. This course provides a new lens through which to perceive addiction beyond the scope of the Hazelden Model. RDS-SFBT looks at the underlying neurogenetic challenges which create dopamine deficiency. It provides assistance in providing a RDS treatment, along with RDS Severity of Symptom (RDS-SOS) tools for self- management of dopaminergic challenge. Lastly the therapy helps provide awareness of wellness practices which facilitate dopamine homeostasis for lasting recovery.
Learning objectives include understanding of the new RDS paradigm, utilization of the Genetic Addiction Risk Severity (GARS) screening which can inform proper pharmaceutical remedy, as well as Nutritive Amino Acid Therapy (NAAT), and Precision Addiction Management (PAM). This therapy addresses the neurogenetic issues which predate addiction, and which continue after addiction is quelled. RDS-SFBT may reduce the revolving door cycle of Substance Use Disorder treatment by addressing the causal influences.
