Title : Examining the mental health of addiction patients and the role of story therapy in the addiction treatment group

Abstract:

Introduction: Is there a one-to-one correspondence between physical states and biological factors? Do mental issues play a role in healing diseases? Can a person's thoughts, emotions and motivations be involved in the occurrence of the disease or its recovery? How is it that some people endure in the face of adversity, but others become passive and depressed? This branch of psychology was recognized for the first time in 1979 with the establishment of the Health Psychology Section (Section 38) in the American Psychological Association. In its broadest sense, this science can be defined as the systematic application of psychology in the fields related to health, disease and health care system. The American Psychological Association defines this science in more detail as follows: a set of educational, scientific and professional assistance in the field of psychology to promote and maintain health, prevent and treat disease, identify the causal and diagnostic relationships of health, disease and related functional disorders as well as for analyzing and improving the health care system and forming health policies. A health psychologist needs information about medical terms to better understand diseases and communicate more effectively with medical professionals. In this chapter, by teaching the meanings of various verbal derivations, such as roots, prefixes and combining them with medical words, it is tried that the psychologist can easily understand the meanings of medical words. Also, in this chapter, the following body systems are discussed: skeletal system, muscular system, cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive, nervous and immune system. The other part of this chapter is dedicated to the research methods used in this science, which include real, correlational, retrospective, prospective, transverse-longitudinal and laboratory-field experiments. Also, evaluation methods, i.e. document review, interviews, questionnaires and observation of objective situations, are discussed.

Main Content: Addiction is one of the problems of human society and it is always a problem, it wastes a lot of energy and capital. American Psychiatric Association (1994). Substance use can have harmful effects, such as harmful effects of drugs and social and legal delinquency (Georjian 1379). and economic (Wright and Kelly 2001) Stucky (2003) considers the reason for drug use to be the low self-esteem of people compared to others, for example, the use of alcohol and marijuana has a much stronger relationship than other substances in proving this statement of Stucky. Most religions of the world (although they have differences) call their followers to positive activities. Religion is one of the influencing factors on behavior and violence. Many aspects of religion emphasize hope, optimism, empathy, connection, forgiveness, and forgiveness. On the other hand, avoiding aggression and anti-social behaviors such as corruption, self-dealing and theft are consistently ordered in religions. Both aspects of religion, engaging in positive activities and staying away from negative activities, create a sense of positive value in the followers of religions (Skaman, 2002). Religion as a mediator affects the thought process and evaluation of the daily events of a person's life. In this way, even many apparently negative events are evaluated as positive and meaningful, and a person will feel positive about them. Many researchers believe that with the help of faith, it becomes easier to deal with emotions and social situations (Diener, Lucas and Oishi, 2002). Also, studies have shown that religiousness has a direct correlation with positive emotion and an inverse relationship with negative emotion (Watson and Clark, 1992). On the other hand, religiousness is correlated with several mental health indicators; For example, religious people are less likely than non-religious people to engage in delinquency, drug and alcohol abuse, divorce, and suicide (Colasanto & Shriver, 1989). Studies in the field of coping with stress show that although the amount of stress experienced by religious and non-religious people is not significantly different, religion may help people to cope with stress better.
