Mathre earned her BSN from the College of St. Teresa, Winona, MN in 1975. Served 6 years in the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps and later earned her MSN from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, OH in 1985. Ms. Mathre initially worked as a medical-surgical nurse and changed specialties to addictions nursing in 1987. Ms. Mathre first learned about the history of medical cannabis while doing her thesis work (Marijuana Disclosure to Health Care Professionals) in 1984-1985 and has since studied in this area. In 1995 she co-founded Patients Out of Time and in 2010 she co-founded the American Cannabis Nurses Association. Author, consultant and educator on cannabis.
