High prevalence and functional impairment make anxiety disorders a major concern in psychiatric care. With anxiety disorders: advances in therapy and research, new pathways are being explored beyond conventional exposure-based treatments. Advances in neurobiology have revealed how fear circuitry and stress responses can be modulated through therapies such as mindfulness-based interventions, EMDR, and even psychedelic-assisted therapy. Emerging pharmacologic agents offer rapid symptom relief with fewer side effects. Technological tools like virtual reality are enhancing the delivery of exposure therapy, especially for social and phobic anxiety. Combining neuroscience, psychotherapy, and tech-based delivery systems fosters earlier intervention, higher engagement, and sustained treatment outcomes.
