This drug is used to treat epilepsy and diseases that induce seizures because it contains anticonvulsant characteristics. It is the medication that is prescribed in oral dose forms available including chewable tablets, immediate-release tablets, extended-release tablets, and extended-release capsules. There is also an intravenous (IV) form available. It is also a generic medication. Oftentimes, generic drugs are less expensive than name brands. The brand-name medicine may not always be available in every dose form or strength. Schizophrenia is also treated with it in combination with several medications. It is furthermore used as a second-line drug for the treatment of the bipolar disorder. Some common side effects of carbamazepine include constipation, tiredness, drowsiness, and disorders of voluntary movement.
