It is a mental illness defined by an ongoing sense of worry, anxiety, and fear that is potent enough to interfere with daily activities. Anxiety disorders include, for example, panic attacks, post-traumatic stress, stress disorder, and obsessive-compulsive disorders. Its therapy entails counselling as well as antidepressant medication. SSRIs or SNRIs are first-line options for drugs to treat generalised anxiety disorder. There isn't enough research to definitively say whether SSRI or SNRI medicine is superior for treating anxiety, hence drug selection is frequently influenced by price. It is advised to continue them for at minimum a year if they are successful. There is a higher chance of relapse when these drugs are stopped. For those who do not react to SSRIs or SNRIs, buspirone and pregabalin are second-line therapies. There is also proof that benzodiazepines, such as diazepam and clonazepam, are useful. Older persons should use medications carefully since they are more prone to experience adverse effects due to concurrent physical conditions.
